If you ever wondered what it would be like to live out your favorite small-town holiday movie, then you must add Berlin, MD to your list of places to discover in the month of December. Voted “America’s Coolest Small Town,” Berlin embraces a historic charm that will create a divine holiday experience. Walk through a community of welcoming, locally-owned shops and businesses, whimsical lights, music to lift your spirits, eccentric arts, and so much more to enlighten your holiday season.
Kick off the holiday season the day after Thanksgiving with the annual Ice Ice Berlin & Tree Lighting event. Stroll through historic streets downtown and check out the artistically carved ice sculptures by artist, Eric Cantine. On that same day, the town lights their community tree at 6 pm. At this free event, locally-owned businesses will be open at a later hour, so it’s a perfect time to experience what downtown Berlin is all about. The 50th ‘Golden Anniversary’ Berlin Christmas Parade is happening a week after on December 2nd at 7 pm. The community of Berlin completely fills the streets to celebrate local organizations and businesses with 80+ floats, dance teams, marching bands, fire companies, and other members of the community.
If I couldn’t convince you well enough that Berlin is the most endearing town to spend your holiday season in, how about a carriage ride? Starting December 3rd at the town’s Visitor’s Center, Berlin Carriage Rides are happening every weekend for the entire month. Better yet, they’re free! Sit back, relax, and soak in all the magic the town radiates this time of the year.
Moving closer to the shore, the Winterfest of Lights makes a comeback this year happening right now through January 2nd. Wander through a remarkable array of sparkling lights while sipping on a hot chocolate. After your tranquil walk through this winter wonderland, take a photo with Santa and visit the gift shop inside a heated area. On New Year’s Eve, the Winterfest will have exhilarating fireworks at midnight to ring in the new year. This annual event is a treasure in Ocean City during the holidays, you can’t miss it! Approaching near, the Ocean City Christmas Parade is happening on December 4th. Festive floats, bands, antique cars, DJs, ice-skating, and photos with Santa himself will get you in the yuletide mood!
We invite you to spend your holiday season in an enchanting town on the Eastern Shore.
