Cruisin' OC with a parade on the Ocean City Boardwalk coming up on May 17 - 20, 2012.
Take those hard earned tax dollars and reward yourself with something that everyone can enjoy- a vacay!
Even if you are only getting a few dollars back, don't you think you deserve a little motivation to get through the next series of fiscal quarters? Don't you feel entitled to some off the cusp luxuries?! I do! I think a long weekend is in order!
Whether you are looking for a family adventure or a romantic getaway to set the mood, Ocean City this Spring is the most ideal location. There are plenty of exciting events in Ocean City as well as amazing hotel specials including:
I'd like to introduce you to Marianne. She stakes her claim in life as a “wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, cousin, teacher, friend, student, OC Insider, photographer, and artist.” Wait, did you catch that? Yep, you sure did! OC INSIDER, stuck right in the mix with wife, mother and friend. Every day I am amazed at the influence Ocean City Md has on a persons heart and soul!
I looked up the word tourist in the thesaurus, because I dislike the way that sounds when describing our visitors. Especially when I am attempting to describe a lady who has been visiting Ocean City with THREE generations of family! I mean, she might as well be dubbed a Local!

Calling all baby sitters, we have a job for you! Five “OC Mammas” are going to be dusting off their running shoes to join together in participation of the FIRST ever 2012 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Ocean City, MD. Together these local Mom's are looking to raise $2,000 for their team goal! Decked out in their matching team shirts they will be walking in honor of many special people.
The goal is not only to raise the $2,000. They also are looking to celebrate the lives of breast cancer survivors they know, as well as honor the lives of loved ones that lost the fight to breast cancer. Needless to say, this event holds a spot very close to their hearts and many others who will be joining OC Mammas, so get these girls a baby sitter because it's on!
Are you looking to join the “OC Mammas”? Grab some friends and read on:
The 5k run/walk and 1 mile run/walk both start on the Ocean City Boardwalk, just north of Wicomico Street then loop around and end at the Ocean City Inlet.
Walk up registration will take place in the lobby of the Ocean City Convention Center beginning on and running through . Times will be announced once they have been finalized.
Of all the money raised in the Race for the Cure, 75% stays in Maryland to fund local programs for women and families. The remaining 25% of funding supports national research. - source

Come one come all to the best Ravens Tailgate of all!
You don't have to wait till September to show your pride for the Baltimore Ravens. From May 31 - June 3, Ocean City with be overflowing with purple for the first ever Ravens Beach Bash. In the past this has been primarily a Ravens Roost convention but this year will be open to the public and will include a ton of special events including a bonfire on the beach, beach games, parties all over town, a parade and more.
When planning your trip to Ocean City, MD it seems that everyone and their brother has an opinion about which event is best to check out, what hotel you should rest your head in, or where you should grab your Happy Hour drink. However, one thing many of you may not have heard about is an amazing group of individuals who can say without a doubt that they are the experts on Ocean City, MD. Who is this group you may ask?! None other than our own OC Insiders!
Last year a friendly face checked into my hotel, The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites, her name was Darlene (aka Momoo on TripAdvisor and Z06RL on the oceancity.com forums). I knew I recognized her name, but it was not until she told me she was an OC Insider that all the bells and whistles went off in my head. Oh MAN! I better mind my p's and q's and get this lady a chocolate strawberry tray immediately, this is exactly who we need to write about OUR hotel. Everyone will listen!
Darlene is probably laughing right now and wondering where in the World that strawberry tray disappeared to. In reality, she has become a sweet friend and I truly enjoy her following on the Holiday Inn Suite'sFacebook page. She was my inspiration for writing about the OC Insiders, in the first place.
Can you believe it?! SpringFest in Ocean City has been displaying crafty goodness, feeding people with some of the best festival food this side of the East Coast and rocking those music tents for TWENTY TWO YEARS!
If you have been living under a rock the past 22 years and don’t know what I’m talking about- then this is the year for you! May 3-6th the festival will kick off with the Fabulous Hubcaps. Their high-energy tribute music is one of the most popular bands in the Tri-State area, they are the oldies kings and queens! Then Saturday is a personal favorite, Mrs. Loretta Lynn. She is just a doll! Eddie Money and Survivor will also be playing that night, so it's going to be an amazing show!
In the craft tents you will find all the coolest didn't-know-you-needed-that items. From flip-flop fly swatters to gorgeous iron sculpted lawn art, you will come away with perfect presents and home decor.
AND THEN your certainly going to have to eat! I always go straight for the corn crab chowder- its just an Eastern Sho' staple. My grandfather however (they travel from the Baltimore area every year for this) goes for the much more riskier alligator on a stick! How fun is that?!!
So do yourself a grand service and visit the four big top tents this May for 2012 SpringFest. You will find me- chowder in hand!
Attention dog and cat lovers! As you may already know, most Ocean City hotels do not allow pets. Rather than leaving your pet at home consider bringing them along and making accommodations for your furry friends at the Dogtel Hotel.
Located on route 50 just 2 miles west of Ocean City the Dogtel Hotel is an easy place to stop on your way to your Ocean City hotel. I recently met with Dan, the owner of the Dogtel Hotel, along with longtime employees/dog whispers Cindy and Judy. They both stressed that you have to be cautious and safety conscious to work at the Dogtel.
“You have to be a dog whisperer. Everyone we hire has animal experience.”
They encourage you to visit your pet or even take them for the day. From May 1 - Sept 30 no pets are allowed on the beach or boardwalk in Ocean City, but there are plenty of places to take your pet for an afternoon or a whole day. Herring Creek nature park at the end of nature park drive is a short drive from the Dogtel Hotel and has a nice looping trail by the bay. Assateague Island National Seashore also allows pets on the beach and makes for a nice day trip.
Enjoy the natural setting of Ocean City Golf Club.
How does Ocean City Golf Club stand out from the others? For starters, not only is it a yacht club but it also has TWO golf courses. Secondly, other courses don’t have Buddy Sass. It is not every day you meet a man like Sass; he has been head of the pro shop for Ocean City Golf Club for nearly 14 years. His air of confidence on the sport convinced me he was capable of answering all of the amateur-ish questions I could muster up.
As I sat and spoke with Sass about the courses he was able to relay to me the difference between them both. When asked about the uniqueness that comes with having more than one course he said, “Because we have 36 holes you can get a very different high quality of experience with either one. Since Seaside is considered to be a parkland course you get that experience of playing on such a course; Newport Bay as a link course is a completely different type of experience. So you can get two very different experiences from two courses on the same property.”
“you can get two very different experiences from two courses on the same property… Our value and our level of quality for what you play are strong.”
Since the courses are different from one another I wondered if they at least shared the same structure.

Eagles Landing was the first Audubon Sanctuary in the state of Maryland.Featuring a great landscape on the water with a view of Assateague Island.
Being an amateur to everything golf I am excited to embark on an adventure where I learn from the best about the sport. For ten weeks I will be sitting down with head professionals at golf courses surrounding the Ocean City area.
This week I had the opportunity of speaking with Bob Croll at Eagles Landing Golf Course. It was a great relief to have sat with a man who was so optimistic about sharing information about a course he’s so familiar with.
Like many college graduates Croll went to school for geography and found a career that had no relationship with his degree. “I moved to the beach after college and ran into a buddy of mine who was running this golf course [Eagles Landing] who got me a job parking carts.” After four years of parking carts Croll went to golf school to become a certified pro. He has now been the head pro at the facility for the past 10½ years.
This blog was created to celebrate the good times and good people that visit, live in and love Ocean City, Maryland.
