Sunfest 2014!

Well, i’m not really sure where Summer went and flew off to, but if you turn around, it’s still visible in the rearview. It’s not tailgating or drafting, but it’s still there hanging on for what looks like a few more weeks hopefully. Right now it’s honking at us and flashing it’s lights trying to grab our attention. What’s that you say summer of ’14? It’s Sunfest weekend!? Oh boy, hotdoggonit, it is Sunfest Weekend! Don’t worry everyone, summer time fun is still to be had. Ocean City, Maryland does a great job of bringing us some really great events. The Fourth, Winterfest, Skateboarding’s Dew Tour, Springfest and The White Marlin Open to just name a few but there are non bigger and non as spectacular as good ol’Sunfest! And celebrating it’s fortieth year to boot!

As a people we like to hold on to things. Some may call it hoarding, some may call it collecting but whatever the case, it’s part of our instinct to become attached to things that please us. Thus, Sunfest. We all know the reality. The sun is getting lower and lower in the sky and the days are quickly becoming shorter and before long we’re wearing long john’s to bed, splitting wood and watching more TV then we probably should. So before that all happens let’s hold on to and celebrate the last bit of warm rays that the summer of ’14 gives us.

The sun gives us so much. Without it, there wouldn’t be much, and in return man has paid the ultimate price (ancient Aztec history documented 20,000/year sacrifices to the Sun so it would keep rising (thanks by the way)). And thank God we live in the age that we do. Today, we celebrate the Sun with different sacrifices. Sacrifices of delicious blue crab and delicious cuts of meat and candy apples and refreshing lemonades and freshly made funnel cakes and other once a year delicacies that Sunfest brings us. Couple that with all the vendors under the big tents that bring us things that can only be found in the Inlet parking lot of Ocean City, MD. If the food and vendors weren’t enough for the Sun, we are also offering to it a great lineup of entertainment that includes the Righteous Brothers on Thursday, Parmalee & Eric Paslay on Friday and Rick Springfield Saturday night. Plus free music and shows all day long, a fireworks display Thursday night and laser light shows Saturday night.

So although it flew by, and we may not remember it all, we had a great time in the Summer of ’14. We here at The Harrison Group hope to see you down at the Inlet parking lot this weekend to help us celebrate the wonderful power that is the Sun. For the complete list of Sunfest events and activities go here.

This upcoming Monday, is, THE BIG ONE. Before the sun begins to peak it’s rays above the horizon, before the rooster crows or the hound howls, and most likely, even before your first cup of coffee, anglers will have set out from Harbour Island, Ocean City on an adventure. An adventure for treasure. For these adventurers, like it has been for many years, the treasure they seek lies beneath the sea. But it is not gold or relics of old, it’s the creatures that live ...read more

RAMPS. In roughly two weeks the Ocean City beaches will be full of these things. Concrete ramps, wooden ramps, steel ramps, vert ramps, kicker ramps, spine ramps, natural moving water ramps (waves) and every other kinda ramp in between. We can rest assure that Evel Knievel will be smiling down on Ocean City during Dew Tour weekend. No, Evel didn’t invent the ramp, or the wheel, but he was the first to cast the spell of RADICAL upon these simple machines. What he ...read more

Here in Ocean City, MD there’s quite a bit of living history. You can enjoy many of the same things today, that people enjoyed 50 and even 100 years ago. Trimper’s Carousel, Fisher’s Popcorn and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean are just a few that come to mind.
