Police Officers have one of the most hectic jobs, and an unfortunate side effect to that is they don’t always have an opportunity, or time, to speak with citizens about general questions or concerns they might have. Departments all over the country do their best to try and combat this disconnect between police and citizens, but it’s easier said than done. However, locally, right here in Ocean City, police are attempting to start a program that they feel will help fight this issue head on: Coffee with Cops.
It’s a simple idea, but one that the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) hopes will encourage “residents, visitors, and business owners” to join them at Starbucks for “coffee and casual conversation,” said Police Chief Ross Buzzuro.
This is the first Coffee with Cops that OCPD is hosting, but on their Facebook page they said “If this first event goes well, we plan to make it a regular event and host it at different locations throughout town.” The event will take place Wednesday, July 19, from 7:30-9 AM at the Ocean City Starbucks located on 17th St. and the Boardwalk.
So far the event listing on OCPD’s Facebook page has received a positive response with 15 people saying they’re going and 77 interested.
Sound like your cup of tea…uhhh, I mean, coffee? If so, stop on by the 17th St. Starbucks from 7:30-9, grab your favorite Starbucks bite and beverage, and enjoy a casual chat with the fine folks from Ocean City Police Department.
